About the Climate Bonds Initiative
Climate Bonds Initiative is an international organisation working to mobilise global capital for climate action. We achieve this through developing the Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme, Policy Engagement and Market Intelligence work. We empower our Partner organisations with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate, influence and instigate change. Our main work streams are Green Social and Sustainable (GSS) bond standards and certification, climate transition, GSS data intelligence and market analysis, policy analysis and advocacy, green, sustainable and transition capital markets development and communications. Communications and advocacy are central to our work.
The Role
The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing the China Communications’ Strategy. Leading the communications on Climate Bonds market development and policy engagement in China will target multiple audiences, including investors, policy makers, funders, partners, media and relevant stakeholders within the green finance space.
The Senior Communications Specialist manages China communications output across Climate Bonds and designated teams, focusing on developing long-term communications and wider brandstrategies.
The SCS liaise and coordinate closely with the Global Head of Communications & Media to maximise opportunities in China. Together with the China team, SCS will develop and coordinate campaign plans, systems improvement, and other communications projects as prioritised. This will also include media monitoring and outreach, partner engagement, and the production of media briefings and pitches.
Coordinating and liaising with core teams including Transition, Standards, Certifications, Market Intelligence, Policy and Regional to develop and align output with overarching Climate Bonds strategy is also integral to the role. As is developing and managing content of digital communications and social media to achieve this objective.
In coordination with the Digital Media Manager, the SCS will plan and coordinate multi-factor communications and brand campaigns for the digital space. With the Communications & Digital Media Office, the SCS will support the delivery of media and social networks training for selected spokespeople to match expansion of Climate Bonds activities.
Job holder may be asked to manage communications staff, including Regional Communications Officers and Communications Interns. Together, they will coordinate the production of a range of high-quality editorial and online content, including online posts, social media content, media releases, announcements, and imagery to support Climate Bonds brand, international advocacy and positioning the China market.
Functional Responsibilities
Effective liaison, coordination and consultation with the Global Head of Communications & Media to achieve successful outcomes
Feeding the Regional pipeline, including calendar of events and launches
Planning, development and implementation of the China communication strategy, ensuring outputs are within budget
Delivering Communications activities under projects China, including press releases and blogs; promotion for events/launches/announcements;
Building and maintaining relationships with Key Media stakeholders;
Building and maintaining a Regional Mailing list
Supporting the Digital Manager with content for the Chinese Website and Regional Social Media Channels (WeChat , LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Insta)
Supporting the Webinar and Podcast Hub with deliveries focused on China;
Monitoring mainstream and digital media about China to identify trends, storylines, and associated events to maximise opportunities
Developing and management of multi-factor brand campaigns that support Climate Bonds transition, market and advocacy goals
Coordinating with Communications Champions (Regions, Transition, Standards and Certification, Policy, Training, Resilience, Digital, Internal Communications and Market Intelligence) to integrate project output with China brand and communications narratives
Liaising directly with China teams to maximise impacts and support for team’s objectives
Social Media management, expansion of brand awareness, and overall promotion of products associated with GSS and transition, market development and investment
China branding and content management on Climate Bonds website and WeChat
Requirements
Essential
- 4 years’ experience in a communications, media, marketing, or relevant role at international level
- Proficient in Mandarin and English
- Experience in brand and communications strategy, campaigns and digital integration
- Understanding of climate finance, growth and development of thematic investment classes
- Understanding role of private finance and green, social sustainable and transition investment in emissions reduction and net zero policy & targets
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to coordinate and prioritise to deadlines
- Demonstrated Experience in managing junior staff, able to support a growing team and coordinate multiple direct reports to achieve team-based outcomes
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work across diverse teams and time zones
- Ability to liaise with external stakeholders in investment, finance, government and policy at international / senior levels
- Excellent written and editorial skills across styles and platforms
- Excellent video recording and editing skills
- Experience dealing with Media requests from journalists
- Understanding of contemporary social media practices, platforms and process
- Strong online, CMS/CRM, web platform understanding and skill base
Desirable
- Knowledge of Green Finance
-Understanding of international climate policy processes and architecture, key organisations, role of regulators, civil society, third sector and NGOs in climate action
- Proficient in Microsoft Office & proficiency in Excel, Adobe Suite, Canva, CiviCRM, CMS, Google Analytics
- Experience in working in small organisations or NGO
